KOTTAKKUNNU which means "the mount with the fort". Kottakkunnu is one of the Recently developed and very beautiful tourist place in Malappuram District and also highest point of Malappuram town. Kottakkunnu is situated at the heart of the Malappuram Town, which is on top of a hill. Located near the district collectorate in Malappuram, one can see traces of an old fort at the crest of the Cantonment Hill. The fort was the first to be built by the Zamorins of Kozhikode. |

Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala is one of the pioneer institutions of Ayurveda - the traditional system of health and medicine - in Kottakkal, Malappuram, Kerala. Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala is situated at Eranaud Taluk, of Malappuram district. Kottakkal Aryavaidyashala is famous both in India and Abroad. Vaidyarathnam P.S.Variar (1869-1946) established this famed center for Ayurvedic treatment, in 1902. Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala attracts even foreigners with the style of treatment they follow.

Kottakkal Sasidharan Nair is an internationally renowned classical Indian dancer and Kathakali artist. He was born on May 24, 1951. His father was Late P. Sankunni Nair and mother was Late Janaki Amma. His primary education was upto 5th, resides and works in Ahmedabad. Has trained in Kathakali, Bharatha Natyam, Kuchipudi, contemporary and Folk dances, he has had a distinguished career as a performer, choreographer and teacher for past 2 decades. The written history of pookkottur, an agricultural village starts from 1900. Pookkottur which belonged to Nilamboor Kovilakam after Tippu’s invasion became a place of attention in 1921. The war between natives of pookkottur and its supporters with British Army made Pookkottur very famous. It became the first place in British India where people directly battled with British Raj.
During this period the landlord –tenant issue flared up and the spirit of independent movement spread among the people.
The combined movement of Khilafat and Non co-operation led a number of people in to the path of independent struggle. This struggle against the British rule and the arrest of a large number of people made them more determined and spirited in fighting the traditional administration.

Calicut International Airport (IATA: CCJ, ICAO: VOCL), also known as Karipur Airport, is located at Karipur in the Malappuram district, near Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, India.
The airport is located 26 km from the Calicut Railway Station and 27 km from the town of Manjeri, with the closest railway station being at Feroke. It is the 12th busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic and 11th in cargo handling.

Calicut Airport is one of the three international airports located in Kerala. Calicut airport was given the status of international airport on February 2, 2006, thereby paving the way for the improvement of the infrastructure there for handling international flights.
The airport was sanctioned after a long period of struggle which began in 1977 under the leadership of freedom fighter K. P. Kesava Menon. Funds were collected from Gulf Malayalis for its development in the 1990s when the Union Government said it did not have funds. To raise the funds needed for airport development, the Malabar International Airport Development Society was formed. Later major developments of facilities, such as extension of runway from 6,000 ft (1,800 m) to 9,000 ft (2,700 m) to facilitate operation of wide-body aircraft were carried out with loans from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). A user fee was also introduced to pay back the loans.
Since then, facilities at the airport have been greatly increased by the Airports Authority of India. There has also been a steady increase in the volume of passenger traffic from the airport.

Manjeri is a city and a municipality in Malappuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the commercial capital of Malappuram district and is 25 km from Calicut International Airport and 50 km from Kozhikode railway station. It was a live centre of the National movement. Anakkayam, 4 km from Manjeri, was an important centre of 1921 uprising. Nellikuth, 6 km from Manjeri was also a center of the 1921 Malabar Revolt and birth place of independence fighter Nellikkuth Ali Musliyar. This place situates in Manjeri Municipality. .
